Pride and Prejudice: Jane Austen

If you google about PRIDE AND PREJUDICE there is so much information about the movie and a bit less about the book. It was first published in 1813, as a romantic novel. When you start reading it, initially all your search is for romance and all that you get is some sort of societal plot. Then you start to realize the reason it is one of the classic literature books. There are different characters with equally different personalities. If you ask me who I loved and want to absorb is Jane, Miss Jane Bennet. The main character is Elizabeth Bennet, who gets prejudiced easily and then realize that her conclusions were wrong and strong.

So, what extract can I make out of this story? These were my thoughts for two days, that ended up in introspection about how prejudiced I've been in my own life and the amount of pride that should be there and not at the same time. The story is strong and beautiful just like Miss Elizabeth. The characters that are very absurd and may make you angry over them are the parents of five Miss Bennet, Mrs. Bennet is the most absurd one, Mr. Bennet is a father that most girls expect and know that it won't improve their situation.
The book starts with a very imposing line:

“It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a good fortune, must be in want of a wife.”

What this book made me think was beyond my expectation. The first few chapters were indicating that all Miss Bennets were in search of a husband the eldest two were most sensible and more importantly the second one Miss Elizabeth was Mr. Bennet's favourite. I found Miss Elizabeth a little bit intimidating, she was a little too much impulsive about her opinion for people.

Pride as the title of the book says has a lot to do with the characters personality. We should have pride that can do good for us, the pride which can attract people and shows our confident personality. Pride shouldn't be a character that is keeping you away from what you deserve. In the novel, Mr. Darcys' pride held him to talk to Miss Bennet, and that too for the reasons which shouldn't have been there. Miss Bennets' pride held her from confronting her own reflection when all her prejudices were shattered. Miss Bennet also said some really cruel things out of her pride. In life, we face many situations and that makes up our personality, sometimes we have gone through a lot, that we start assuming self to be the only superior, sensible, and intellectual being when in reality we still have a long journey to cover. Being proud is a thing and being blind because of the pride is absurd and deteriorating. Be proud in a smart way as not to harm self.

Prejudice is another word and dimension of the story. I realized that being prejudiced about anyone or anything is the only thing that makes one think in a shallow way, I was just a teenage girl at that time, that trait came because of reading books. So personally, I'm not someone who gets strong impressions at first encounter with people or things. This novel tells you the same. Miss Bennet was extremely prejudiced about Mr. Darcy, that led to a strong impression on her mind that Mr. Darcy was a very disagreeable man. While reading even I thought that Mr. Darcy was indeed very disagreeable and deserved only his pride but in an eldest Miss Bennet way, open to know that he may turn out to be different. Such is the beauty of Jane Austen, her writing is so compelling that you can forget yourself and be a part of the story. Prejudice narrows our site and we get restricted from the knowledge that the world contains.
