BOOKISH CONFESSIONS
Okay, so if you say that you don't have anything to hide being a reader in a bookish community then everybody knows that you are lying. All of us have a thing or two that won't be welcomed in a strict readers club, although I believe that readers are rather welcoming to everything new and different. It becomes majorly toxic when some readers don’t allow the people in a reading community just because that person is more into something that they aren’t in. So there is a fine line being a true reader and being obsessed with one writer or genre.
Here are my confessions being a reader.
Here are my confessions being a reader.
- I own more paperbacks than hardcover. Hardcovers are good it's just that they consume a lot of space and doesn't fit in my handbag. All the hardcovers I have, are the ones which I received as gifts.
- I enjoy reading more than eating or drinking. I'm too scared to stain my books, so, I just don't keep it anywhere near food or drinks. I've known people who'll eat and read and I don't lend them my books.
- Not reading while going for someplace to visit for the first time. I used to do that but it gave me a lack of memory if I must say so, I couldn't recall things about the place. But of course there are all kinds of people, but I'm not the one who can read and enjoy the atmosphere at the same time.
- While this blog is more about “no spoilers”, I don't really mind spoilers, until and unless the writing is crapy. (I've been through crapy and extremely ridiculous writings mostly by new writers. I appreciate the effort but the editor could have been a little more attentive.)
- I do dog ear my books or leave a pen inside as a reminder. There are people who’ll hate me for doing that but I can't help being the mix of using the bookmarks and dog-earring my paperback books. (Some of you might be cringing.)
- I have a phobia of drowning my books, so, I never take out my books on the lakeside or on the beach (the already familiar ones).
- I know and understand that piracy is very harmful to writers, but I have plenty of pirated books and second hands too. Only after reading about ten of them I realised that the pirated versions have a lot of missing pages and unnecessary repeated pages.
- I like the smell of old books more than the just out of press books. I have a habit of smelling my collected books every time I clean them of dirt.
- I love arranging the books but I also am lazy so it happens three or four times a year and I keep the good books on display and hide the ones that I didn't like.
- I have a little number of shared books with a close friend of mine and I usually wonder if we were to break up or move apart who’ll keep those books. (There is a chance that I'll keep all of them).
